One of the most important things to do as you make kratom a regular part of your life is to figure out your kratom “sweet spot”. This will give you the best results from kratom without the negative effects of using too much. You’ll also save money by not using more than you need. Here is exactly how to do this.
What Exactly Is A Kratom “Sweet Spot”?
The sweet spot is where a combination of factors results in a maximum response for a given amount of effort (Wikipedia). In baseball the sweet spot of the bat is the part which sends the ball the furthest distance when it makes contact.
In a similar way, a kratom sweet spot is the right amount of kratom which will give you the maximum results for the minimum amount. Think of it as getting the biggest bang for your buck.
Why Should You Bother?
Besides helping you make the most efficient use of your kratom and saving you money, finding your sweet spot can help you avoid the pitfalls of taking too much kratom at once. The negative effects of too much kratom include sleepiness, an inability to focus, “brain fog”, anxiety, and nausea. Speaking from personal experience, these symptoms will eventually wear off but you’ll be in for a rough couple of hours.
On the other end of the spectrum, taking too little kratom means that you won’t get any of the effects of kratom at all, or the effects will be mild. That’s a waste of money since you’re essentially throwing away that kratom. By finding your sweet spot you’ll find the amount of kratom that’s juuuuust right… for you.
Is Everybody’s Sweet Spot The Same?
When I say just right for you I mean that different people respond differently to kratom. The exact same amount of the exact same strain of kratom taken by two different people can yield two different results. One person may not feel anything at all and the other one may get the ill effects of a kratom overdose. This can happen even if both people are the same sex, build, and weight.
That’s why it’s important for you to find your own individual sweet spot. Unfortunately I can’t say, “Just use 2.5 grams of this red vein strain of kratom and you’ll get a great feeling.” That’s why I’m writing this – to help you find what works best for you.
How To Find Your Sweet Spot
Ok, here are the nitty-gritty details to find your sweet spot. This will involve a little trial and error but by following these steps you should minimize the errors.
The first step is to figure out a way to consistently measure your kratom. The two most effective ways I’ve found are by using a digital scale or, if you don’t have one of those, using measuring spoons. I prefer the digital scale because I find that to be more accurate than using a measuring spoon.
This is the scale I personally use. It measures out to a hundredth of a gram so I know if I’m burning 2.57 grams or if I’m burning 2.49 grams.
Before I bought this scale I had another one which wasn’t as accurate. It didn’t have a decimal place at all. That meant it was impossible to tell the difference between 2.00 grams and 2.99 grams. This led to drastic differences in the effects I was getting from kratom because sometimes I’d overdo it and sometimes I’d underdo it.
If you don’t have access to an accurate scale and your budget won’t allow for one at this time then you can use teaspoons to measure the amount of kratom you’re taking. Just be warned that your results might be erratic. The tricky part is making sure that you’re getting the same amount onto the spoon each time. I suggest you use “flat” teaspoon measurements each time (where you scrape the excess amount of kratom off the teaspoon so that it’s level with the sides of the teaspoon) instead of “rounded” or “heaping” measurements since those two aren’t going to be consistent each time.
The photo at the top of this post shows a flat measurement in a 1/4 teaspoon.
Now here is where the trial and error comes in. You’re going to have to test different amounts of kratom to see how you respond. I recommend starting with smaller doses and working your way up. If you’re brand new to using kratom then see my ultimate guide to kratom for all the complete details.
You should start with a small amount of 1.5 grams (which ended up being 1 level teaspoon when I measured it) and then wait thirty to forty-five minutes to see what kind of effects you get. If you are hyper-sensitive to kratom you may get a nice feeling from this amount alone. For most people though you’re going to need a little bit more, so at this point you’ll probably need to use 0.5 to 1.0 grams more.
Now wait another thirty minutes and evaluate again. If you still aren’t getting any effects at all then go ahead and use another 0.5 to 1.0 grams more. This will give you a total range of anywhere from 1.5 grams to as much as 3.5 grams. If you still feel that you need to burn more kratom then go ahead it but most people will feel an effect by this point. There are some folks who may need to use up to 5 grams to feel anything so keep this in mind.
You shouldn’t need to burn much more than this if you’re using high-quality kratom. I’ve tried different vendors and have gotten kratom that had very little effect on me even when burning up to 10 grams at a time. The vendor I use is Happy Hippo Herbals because their kratom is the best quality that I’ve found and their customer service is excellent.
You’ll find that it’s necessary to follow this process of testing different amounts of kratom for each new strain that you try. You’ll probably have a certain range that most of your kratom doses will fall into, but there will probably be some variation.
For example, the amount of kratom that I use in one session is usually 2.5 grams. But the other day I tried a new sample of a different strain and that amount ended up being way too much and I got really, really groggy and nauseous. I messed up because I didn’t bother to test different amounts with this strain and I should have started with a smaller amount. (It turned out that 1.75 grams is my sweet spot with this particular strain).
Since you’ll be testing different amounts it’s important to keep track of your results, which leads us to…
How To Keep Track Of Your Results
However you do it, in some shape, form, or fashion you need to keep track of the results you get from different amounts and different strains of kratom. Otherwise it’s really easy to forget whether you used 3 grams or 4 grams and you can end up with no effects or an overdose.
I keep track of my kratom effects with a small notebook I always carry in my back pocket and a pen in my front pocket which I use for journaling. Every time I use kratom I write down what type of kratom I used , how much of it I burned, and what time I used it. Then I jot down my observations about the effects that I’m getting.
I use a rating system to keep track of the effects. I use a ten-point scale and I rate the following categories (in no particular order):
These categories make sense in my own head but probably not to you, so you’ll want to come up with your own words for the sensations that you get from kratom.
For example, “Body response” represents the warm, fuzzy, tingling, pleasant body sensation that I sometimes get from kratom and “Introspection” refers to that feeling of wanting to just sit quietly deep in thought. By using a rating system I can later compare the effects of different strains of kratom and decide whether a new strain is going into my regular rotation.
It also helps me decide what type of kratom I want to use for a given situation. For example, if I’m going to be busy all day and I need good, steady energy then I’ll use kratom that is high on my rating scale for Energy and not necessarily high on Introspection.
Finding your kratom sweet spot will save you money and give you the biggest return on your investment by letting you get the greatest results from the lowest amount of kratom. Each person’s sweet spot is different so it will take some trial and error for you to find the right amount of kratom for you. You’ll have to do this for each new strain that you try but the payoff is that you will avoid the bad experience of a kratom overdose.
By following these steps you will eliminate a lot of the errors made by people who are new to kratom so you will be ahead of the game. Having an accurate and consistent way of measuring the kratom that you take and keeping track of your results will help you quickly develop your knowledge of the effects of kratom and will help you reap the benefits of this amazing plant.
