What do kratom effects feel like? This is a question most people want answered before trying kratom for the first time.
In this post I’m going to describe in detail the effects I get from kratom. While the effects may vary from person to person this should be a useful road map if you’ve never tried kratom and want to know what to expect.
Different strains of kratom have different effects. One single strain does not give me every one of the effects below. That’s why I keep track of the strains that I take and how they effect me (and why you should, too).
Negative kratom effects
Let’s get this out of the way. Kratom can have negative effects if you take too much or use poor quality kratom or maybe “enhanced” kratom or kratom extracts.
I’ve suffered from the following effects from taking too much kratom or poor quality kratom. This mostly happened when I was first learning how to use kratom.
I’ve never tried “enhanced” kratom or extracts so my evidence on those is secondhand but I trust my sources.
To avoid these problems, use good quality kratom and learn the amount of kratom that works for you.
I feel like I just want to lie down and sleep. It’s hard to get motivated to perform physical tasks.
Just like it sounds. Only once did I worry I was actually going to throw up. Most of the time when I’ve felt nauseous it’s just been uncomfortable.
It feels like my head is filled with cotton balls and it’s hard to think straight. Doing mental tasks in this state just plain sucks.
Lack of concentration
It’s hard to focus on any one thing. I feel spacey and just want to zone out.
I’ve felt a general sense of anxiety and unnecessarily worried about random things. Occasionally I’ve also felt kind of jittery, almost like restless leg syndrome if you know what that feels like.
Positive kratom effects
Now the good stuff. These are kratom effects we are looking for. This is how I feel 99% of the time when I use kratom.
Most kratom strains give me a boost in energy. White strains give me a big boost. Green strains give me a nice, steady boost that lasts longer. Red strains give me a mild boost.
I first start to notice my energy increase about twenty minutes after I use kratom. It comes on gradually and is not a jolt of energy like you might feel from stimulants or coffee. I can describe it like a car engine that’s been running and then you press down on the accelerator slowly and the engine revs up gradually.
The energy boost lasts until the early afternoon. I don’t crash but instead return to normal. I usually use more kratom at this point.
I perk up. I Look forward to the day instead of dreading having to go to work. A problem that would otherwise leave me feeling defeated is now a problem that I’m sure I will overcome.
I feel like my future is bright and I’ll accomplish what I set out to do.
Cobwebs of sleep start to melt away in my head.
If I use a fast strain it’s easier for me to focus on the task at hand. My mind is less apt to wander.
If I use a slow strain I tend to “zone out” more and my thoughts drift along on a slow current. It’s good for contemplation and meditation but not so much for cranking out lots of work.
One of the most pleasant kratom effects is that of well-being. I feel like a warm wave of bliss slowly washes over me. I have happy and comforting thoughts about myself and toward others.
My mind is not racing. My rate of thought slows down and I’m able to think about one thing at a time. My emotional state is not changed by other people’s emotions. I’m able to walk and move with ease. I feel no anxiety.
My focus is inward. I interact with people and I observe the world around me but it seems like I’m watching a movie and I’m the main character.
I feel a warm sensation slowly spread throughout my body. It’s a pleasant warmth.
When I first started using kratom I also felt a tenseness in my muscles, like they’re ready for action. It almost feels like jitters but not quite. Like a precursor to jitters, but the jitters don’t actually happen.
Sometimes with a potent dose when I write in my journal it feels like my writing is slightly shaky. When I hold out my hand it’s not trembling at all. It’s more like my fine motor control gets a little jittery.
My visual perception is enhanced. Colors are more vibrant and vivid. Objects stand out in more detail. I see the contrast between items more clearly.
I focus on things more clearly. For example, I’m writing this just after coming back from taking the kids to the park. The deep blue parts of the playground equipment were a rich, deep hue. The bright yellow of other parts of the playground equipment was vivid and bright.
Colors are richer and more beautiful than usual and they stir pleasant emotions in me.
I’m more relaxed around others. I focus on what the other person is saying more than on what I’m going to say next. Conversations flow more smoothly.
If people talk to me when I’m busy at work I’m less irritable about being interrupted. I easily switch gears and actually give them my full attention. Sometimes I have to stop them and get back to work and I’m able to do this in a gentle, relaxed manner.
Things that my children do which normally bother me don’t bother me as much. I’m able to talk with my kids versus ordering them around.
I feel the desire to eat but it’s a feeling that I acknowledge and can choose to ignore if I want.
Kratom helps me feel when my body really is hungry for energy and nutrition from food instead of when I’m craving something to eat. I’m more aware if I start to feel irritable and my energy level goes down if I’ve put off eating for a long period of time .
When I choose to do intermittent fasting as Mike Cernovich writes about, kratom helps me because I can ignore food cravings until it’s time for me to eat. It makes it easier for me to pass on snacks and junk food offered to me.
Kratom effects can result in discomfort if you take too much or use enhanced blends or extracts.
However, the good effects of kratom you want are excellent in terms of well-being, motivation, and extra energy. It’s a matter of choosing high quality kratom and learning how much works for you.
If you’re looking forward to experiencing the great feelings and sensations that kratom offers but don’t know where to buy it, I recommend Happy Hippo Herbals.
